The AMD 9800X3D is breaking sales records as it dominates the competition, including the rest of the Ryzen 9000 series. The timing probably could not have been better for the launch of the 8-core/16-thread processor which debuted AMD’s 2nd gen 3D V-cache. Regardless of which side of the fence PC enthusiasts may’ve been on, and also including 1st-time builders, it’s become obvious many were at least considering moving to an AM5 platform, and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D pretty much sealed the deal once launched, and everyone saw its impressive performance.
German retailer Mindfactory continues to publish reports regarding sales of PC components such as graphics cards and CPUs. Not much has changed in the CPU rankings except for AMD’s growing lead over Intel in the processor market. Intel’s Core Ultra 200 Series launched with a lukewarm reception and hasn’t really managed to gain major traction, despite claims that firmware updates would narrow the performance gaps in gaming. Meanwhile, Mindfactory reports that the AMD 9800X3D is still the king, and the sales numbers just keep getting more impressive as time moves on and it leads AMD’s CPU product stack.
Mindfactory Sales Figures (via TechEpihany )
- AMD Ryzen 7 98000X3D – Accounts for 46% of all AM5 processors sold (18,410 units), however, the rest of the 9000 series only accounts for 3% of sales
- AMD processors total sales – 23,615 units sold accounting for over 92% of total processor sales vs. Intel’s 2,010 units moved.
- Market Share lead– AMD presently has over 93% market share now
- AM4 is still strong – 5,205 units sold accounting for just over 20% market share
- Intel Core Ultra 200 Series – 185 units sold, less than 1% market share

Intel Rising
It’s not all doom and gloom for Intel, though, as the chip manufacturer ought to see a significant sales increase for its Core Ultra 285K processors, even if for some unusual circumstances. GPU manufacturer NVIDIA recently launched its RTX 50 series lineup, which, of course, sold out in minutes across the world. For those willing to spend the extra money, the next alternative is buying a prebuilt PC with one, although these too are sold out now. Interestingly enough, the vast majority of these PCs feature Intel’s flagship processor bundled with either a GeForce RTX 5080 or RTX 5090. The same is true on the mobile front with many newer laptops featuring a mobile RTX 50 series GPU paired with a mobile Intel 200 series CPU.
More to come for the Ryzen 9000 X3D lineup
Rumors continue to surface that AMD will be launching its Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D processors soon. Some point to a March release, and while it’s been confirmed that both will continue to only feature 3D V-cache on one CCD, it is hoped that the 9950X3D may have slightly better gaming performance than the 9800X3D. However, these are both top-tier products whose higher prices are unlikely to sway customers from the 9800X3D’s $479 price point but could interest those looking for a greater balance in productivity and gaming usage.
