Until Dawn, a remastered version of Supermassive Games’ 2015 interactive drama horror game that PlayStation launched for the PS5 and PC in October 2024, may no longer be getting any additional updates, according to a new report that claims Ballistic Moon, the game’s developer, has “effectively closed.”

Per today’s report, which explains that while Ballistic Moon still technically exists, only key staff are still around:

Sources say that only the studio’s founders remain and “possibly” a handful of employees “at most”. There are no employees in public relations, marketing, or development left.

“People are sharing bugs they’ve found in the game to make the team aware but there is no one working on patch support for the game anymore,” one source said. “The studio has effectively closed now.”

The report goes on to suggest that Sony had denied funding for any additional updates for Until Dawn, adding to the idea that the 1.06 patch that Ballistic Moon rolled out in early December for PC players will be its last:

When asked about Sony publishing another game or future updates to Until Dawn Remake for the studio, one source said it was discussed but never came to fruition.

“Sony said after the game they might greenlight more funding for updates, but looks like they didn’t,” the source said.

“Story aside the pc port of Until dawn is very bad, the game looks very beatiful but a very big downside of this playststion port is that its made by playstation,” reads a negative review for the game that a Steam player posted last month. “It has almost all the problems every playstation port on pc has, with visual bugs and glitches and ofc also the bad performance in some parts of the game i get around 80FPS on some of the highest settings but than in other parts of the game i only get around 40FPS.”

“Our new Until Dawn experience has been built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5,” creative director Neil McEwan told players in August 2024 when the remaster for PS5 and PC was first revealed. “We have updated character models, environments, interactable props, visual effects, and animations, all designed to maximize the Until Dawn experience on both PS5 and PC.”

“As a team of Until Dawn fans and horror lovers, our intention has not been to alter the events of that fateful night. Instead, we have focused on giving the original game a cinematic update, offering the player a more intimate experience by enhancing the visual storytelling,” he added.
