Power and Temp

Power

Board Power Graph

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT TDP/TGP is 304W. In our power testing, we did hit a peak of 327W board power in Kingdom Come Deliverance II. We specifically mention this game because in Kingdom Come Deliverance II we experienced the highest GPU boost clocks, as shown on the overclocking page of this review. Due to that higher running GPU boost clock, the total board power goes up, and this is where we hit the maximum of 327W at default. In Cyberpunk 2077 it was different, playing Cyberpunk 2077 the highest peak board power we hit was 313W. This shows you how the power can range depending on the game, anywhere in our testing from 313W board power up to 327W.

If we take this maximum board power we experienced of 327W, then that is about 4% more power than the Radeon RX 7900 XT utilized, and 12% more power hungry than the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. If we take the lower power number from Cyberpunk at 313W, then that would be at the same power level as the Radeon RX 7900 XT, but still 7% more power than the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti.

Overclocking increased the power demand by 9%, but our performance showed only a 4% performance improvement from all that extra power. This does not seem like a very efficient power-to-performance ratio.

Temperature

GPU Temperature Graph

One great thing about the XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Magnetic Air Edition design is the cooling, XFX hit it out of the park with this model. The XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Magnetic Air Edition remained the coolest running video card in our testing, and the GPU only hit 53c at default and 55c overclocked. This makes it just incredibly cooler running than every other video card here.

Memory Temperature Graph

We also wanted to look at the memory temperature, the XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Magnetic Air Edition also has average memory temperatures. The memory temperature of 82c is much cooler than the Radeon RX 7900 XT and on par with the 7900 GRE, but the RTX 5070 Ti does run much cooler on memory temperatures. Overclocking increased the memory temperature to 84c, still cooler than the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

GPU-Z Screenshots

Above, you can see the GPU-Z sensor data running at default (left) and overclocked (right) in Kingdom Come Deliverance II. We are showing this game because it hit the highest GPU boost frequencies and power draw. At default, we see that the XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Magnetic Air Edition pulls 327W board power at 1.058V GPU Voltage, causing the fan speed to hit 40%. When we overclocked the video card, the board power rose to 357W, GPU Voltage climbed slightly to 1.085V, and the fan speed increased to 44%.

SUMMARY

The XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Magnetic Air Edition is based on the AMD RDNA 4 architecture and packs a pretty big improvement to raster and Ray Tracing performance from the previous generation, providing real gains for AMD. It competes with the more expensive GeForce RTX 5070 Ti for performance, at a lower price, except for Ray Tracing which does still lag a generation behind on performance. The XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Magnetic Air is built well, and a solid video card with a pleasing design and unique Magnetic Fan feature from XFX. Its value is high due to the price to performance that it offers compared to the competition.
