The PURE Radeon RX 9070, PURE Radeon RX 9070 XT, and PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT are shipped with cushioning material that may “result in a decrease in cooling capacity or product failure” if it isn’t removed, according to a new warning to customers that ASK Corporation, an authorized distributor of graphics boards for SAPPHIRE Technology, published on its support site today.

From an ask-corp.jp support page, which includes a table of the affected GPUs and the relevant part, which some users may apparently fail to spot before installation:

We are an authorized distributor of Sapphire Technology’s AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics boards. We would like to inform you that the protective cushioning material (sponge) that is attached to the product at the time of shipment must be removed before using the product.

There is protective cushioning material sandwiched in the heat sink part on the back of the product, so please remove it from the red frame part in the image or by pushing it in the direction of the arrow. Please be careful not to try to cut it with a cutter or screwdriver, as this may damage the product.

If you are unable to remove it, peel off the sticker on top and remove it through the gap made by removing the screw in yellow in the image.
