Gameplay Performance – Ray Tracing

In the gaming performance below, we are comparing performance at 1440p with Ray Tracing enabled, as this is the prime target resolution for these graphics cards. We are using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Founders Edition, and a factory-overclocked PowerColor Hellhound Radeon RX 7900 GRE video card (7900 GREs are factory overclocked, there is no reference card), as well as the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT reference video card.

Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 Ray Tracing Performance Graph

In Alan Wake 2, we are running at 1440p with the “High” quality Ray Tracing preset enabled, not the new Ultra quality; this is one setting down from Ultra. This was required because the new Ultra RT mode is not available on AMD Radeon GPUs; to make a comparison, we must use the High RT preset.

At 1440p and “High” RT the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition does not offer a playable gameplay experience at native resolution. We do need to enable Quality FSR, and when done we can just barely reach playable levels of performance in this game. In reality, you will most likely want to use a more aggressive Balanced FSR setting, or simply turn down RT quality settings. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition isn’t far off from the performance of the GeForce RTX 5070 FE however, they are only within a couple of FPS average of each other, which at these number is 5-6% difference. Both GPUs need to have upscaling enabled, however.

We do see that the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition has a big improvement over the Radeon RX 7900 GRE by 33%, and over the 7800 XT by 55%, so big improvements from the previous generation.

Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth Wukong Ray Tracing Performance Graph

In Black Myth: Wukong we did have to drop this game to 1080p just to get a benchmark run done due to the tremendous burden on performance when the “Very High” RT option is enabled in this game. At 1080p the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is not playable at all, even with FSR Upscaling at 1080p, it just cannot muster RT with anything near playable. In fact, only the GeForce RTX 5070 FE with DLSS Upscaling is even remotely playable with Very High RT at 1080p. In this game, you are better leaving off RT on the Radeon RX 9070.

We see that the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is 46% slower than the GeForce RTX 5070 FE. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is though 100% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and 122% faster than the Radeon RX 7800 XT.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing Performance Graph

In Cyberpunk 2077, we are running at 1440p with the “Ultra” Ray Tracing feature enabled; this is not Path Tracing. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition does not provide a playable experience without FSR Upscaling enabled. With FSR Upscaling, the game is very playable at 80FPS, but that upscaling is required with Ultra RT. Performance with the GeForce RTX 5070 FE is also very close, the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is only 4% slower than the GeForce RTX 5070 FE. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is 32% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and 57% faster than the Radeon RX 7800 XT. Interestingly, overclocking the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition brings it lock-step into the same performance as the GeForce RTX 5070 FE with RT.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 Ray Tracing Performance Graph

In Dying Light 2, the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition allows a very playable experience at 1440p and RT without needing Upscaling, but with it it’s over 100FPS which is nice. This is another game where the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition matches the GeForce RTX 5070 FE in Ray Tracing performance, exactly on performance, which is interesting to see. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is 34% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and 53% faster than the Radeon RX 7800 XT. Overclocking the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition actually outperforms the GeForce RTX 5070 FE by 4%.

F1 24

F1 24 Ray Tracing Performance Graph

In F1 24 the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition easily allows a playable experience with Ultra RT at 1440p over 100FPS. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition outperforms the GeForce RTX 5070 FE by 27%, which is interesting and that is with RT enabled. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is also 27% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and 49% faster than the Radeon RX 7800 XT. Overclocking improves performance by 5%.

Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws Ray Tracing Performance Graph

Star Wars Outlaws is very demanding at 1440p with Ultra Ray Tracing so we brought the game down to 1080p. Even at 1080p the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition does not allow a playable experience without FSR Upscaling. With Quality FSR Upscaling the game is very playable at 66FPS, so that is a big improvement from the previous generation. In this game, the XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is just 6% slower than the GeForce RTX 5070 FE with Ultra RT. The XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC White Triple Fan Gaming Edition is 24% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and 50% faster than the Radeon RX 7800 XT.
