Test Setup

We are using an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D for testing, and for 2025, we have upgraded our testing PC with completely updated components from top to bottom. We are using the motherboard’s current default BIOS settings on the latest release BIOS. We have enabled PCI-Express Resizable BAR in the motherboard BIOS. We have enabled EXPO I in the BIOS for the memory. We are using a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro with the latest Windows Updates, including the 24H2 update. We have the latest drivers installed, including the latest chipset drivers.  We are using the “Balanced” power profile in Windows Settings, and Core Isolation/Memory Integrity (VBS) is Enabled. AMD provided a new press release driver package for the RX 9070 release. This driver has been utilized for each Radeon RX video card used today.

SUMMARY

Our review is of the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 12G GAMING TRIO OC. This video card is well built and superbly cooled. The GeForce RTX 5070 GPU itself is lackluster compared to the new competition, and the competition gives it, well, some competition at this price point. The performance in ray tracing is somewhat better but only at very low resolutions. The overclocking capability of the card is very good and may be what makes the overall performance difference in many games. The MSI GeForce RTX 5070 GAMING TRIO OC makes a great addition to MSI's RTX 5070 lineup, and offers a more affordable RTX 5070.
