ASUS and Bethesda have announced a collaboration to create a custom GeForce RTX 5080 featuring artwork from Doom: The Dark Ages. The limited edition graphics card includes stunning artwork of the Doom Slayer battling hordes of demons on the backplate, along with green and gold accents running along the rear bracket and heatsink. Custom designs don’t stop there, as numerous game lore-specific details can be found around the frame and cooling fans as well. Furthermore, the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080 DOOM Edition graphics card will only be available from the Bethesda Gear Store, where it will also be bundled with a yellow key card, mouse mat, and an exclusive T-shirt. Additionally, owners will be able to unlock an ROG-exclusive Doom Slayer Legionary skin in the game (full version of the game is required to access).

“We are thrilled to continue our 30th anniversary celebrations by collaborating with the developers of DOOM, who have also played a pioneering role in the PC gaming industry for over three decades. We partnered closely with id Software and Bethesda to develop a graphics card that we hope fans of the DOOM franchise will cherish and take pride in showcasing within their systems and collections,”

– Kent Chien, Coroporate Vice President of ASUS

The engineers at ASUS have pulled out all the stops in ensuring that, despite the flames of the underworld depicted on the backplate, the graphics card will run cool. With a gigantic heatsink making the card essentially 4-slots wide, and four cooling fans, one on the backside similar to a Founders Edition, but with three on the front of the card, players will be hard-pressed to get this card to overheat and ought to overclock well. There’s no word yet on pricing and availability for the custom bundle, but Doom: The Dark Ages releases for PC and consoles on May 13, so humans wanting this “super weapon” will soon need to prepare to battle the bots in staking their claim to get one.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
