It’s time to take some of that pent-up rage and unleash it upon the hoary hordes of undead roaming LA as Dead Island 2 is currently free on EGS. The sequel game arrived on PC and consoles in 2023 after being in development for roughly 8 years. It first launched for PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive and then via Steam a year later and has, generally speaking, received positive reviews from new players and longtime franchise fans alike. Despite its name, it took the zombie-apocalypse theme to the mainland with Los Angeles now being overrun by hungry, decaying, undead. As the developers put it, “Welcome to Hell-A”.

Whether playing in single-player mode or having a couple of friends join for 3-player co-op, there’s plenty of opportunity to explore LA and slay its fiendish denizens. Dead Island 2 has also received praise from reviewers for its chaotic and over-the-top humor, gruesomeness, and visuals. Those wanting to experience all of the intense details at 4K/60 FPS will need a moderately powerful GPU, as the original system requirements for the Ultra Setting recommended either an NVIDIA RTX 3090 or an AMD RX 6950 XT.
So, gather your gear, from rifles to shovels, including a meat stick (yes, that is a thing), and snag the base game while it’s free (until May 22) on Epic Games Store. There has been a substantial amount of added, paid content released since its original launch, which includes story expansions, character packs, and more weapons, and the Ultimate Edition is now discounted at 72% off for $19.59. For those who still can’t get enough carnage, a NewGame+ mode was added last fall when the Ultimate Edition launched, and its patch included a new co-op horde mode.
