S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition Coming to PC and Consoles on May 20

GSC Game World has announced that the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy is coming to PC and consoles in an Enhanced Edition next week. Featuring updated visual effects and upgraded textures, along with various QoL improvements and fixes, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone — Enhanced Edition arrives on PC (via GOG, Steam, and EGS), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 20 and includes the first game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl, its prequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat, which concluded the original Legends of the Zone story. The Enhanced Editions can either be purchased separately but pricing has not yet been revealed.

The original trilogy launched on PC only from 2006 through 2009 and eventually made their way over to older gen consoles in 2024, so owners of newer systems can finally look forward to some modern tweaks and upgrades. Below are some of the new features, but GSC Game World has indicated that the PS5 versions will support DualSense adaptive triggers, light bar, and the DualSense speaker. The developer has also indicated that no new story content has been added or changed, the original AI/NPCs remain the same, as does the original weapon balancing and game economy. Current mods will not work on the Enhanced Edition, but it will support Steam Workshop for modding.

Enhanced Edition Features (via FAQ):

  • Atmospheric visual enhancements, including God Rays, Dynamic Screen Space Reflections, and Advanced Global Illumination effects.
  • Redesigned water shaders, upgraded skyboxes, and wetness effects.
  • Improved visuals with upscaled textures featuring more detailed NPCs and environment.
  • Upgraded weapon, Field of View, and models.
  • Multiple bugfixes and quality of life tweaks.
  • Full gamepad support.
  • Additionally, some UI elements have been updated to improve usability on both PC and Consoles.
  • Some audio improvements
  • Various controls were changed and adjusted to be more in line with current game practices.

PC System Requirements

Longtime fans needn’t worry about having to do major hardware upgrades to enjoy the as most PC users are likely to be able to play the game at its highest settings. At 4K, using maximum settings, an NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT are recommended, but beyond that, many older GPUs with 8 GB VRAM will suffice for 1080p or 1440p.
