It’s starting to look as if things are finally getting better for folks who may want to upgrade to one of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. It’s been another rough GPU launch with a lack of inventory and subsequent scalping, but it seems that we’re almost out of the woods as some stock is returning online for near MSRP. However, it should be noted that these days, MSRP is highly subjective as numerous board partners raised their prices shortly after launching their custom models, but regardless, at least folks who are not fortunate enough to live near a Microcenter may have a chance of getting one now.

Now, while prices for NVIDIA’s flagship RTX 5090 remain absurdly high at over $3K, and perhaps why there are even photos of it being in stock at brick and mortar stores now, other models in the RTX 50 series product stack are becoming more accessible. The RTX 5080 16 GB also remains largely out of reach for its $999 MSRP, with the nearest priced models going for ~$1500. Things start to look brighter when it comes to the RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB, which uses a cut-down version of the RTX 5080 GPU and a slower memory configuration. Prices for it currently start at just over $900 (MSRP is $749), but that does get you close performance of an RTX 5080 for a lot less money.

Next up is the RTX 5070 12 GB, whose MSRP is $549.99, and the current lowest price for a custom model is around $110 more. Ironically enough, the RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB model has somewhat flooded the market with prices ~$450, but most folks are likely to look elsewhere for an 8 GB graphics card given the competitive pricing from AMD and Intel. However, those eyeing an RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB model presently have slim pickings, but with some searching, they can be found for ~$550 (MSRP $429).

Prices are by no means great, yet, and while our widget was unable to pull anything from Best Buy there are some models that appear to be available now at slightly more reasonable prices.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
