Gameplay Performance with Ray Tracing

We mentioned in the previous section that a number of the games we use have an “always-on” ray traced lighting. Others, in this section, obviously have optional Ray Tracing that is enabled in-game. Here we enable the Ray Tracing and otherwise leave all other settings as they were in the previous section. In Black Myth: Wukong, we do dial down the resolution to 1080p to achieve playable frame rates.

Alan Wake 2

In Alan Wake 2, neither card is playable, regardless of how you get there. In fact both cards are nearly equally unplayable at this resolution.

Black Myth: Wukong

XFX QuickSilver Radeon RX 9070 OC Gaming Edition: performance: Ray Tracing Black Myth Wukong

If you are a Radeon RX 9070 fan, this one was hard to watch. Even the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 GAMING TRIO OC, which is twice as fast here, stumbled without upscaling. This game is brutal graphically. With upscaling, the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 GAMING TRIO OC is 50% faster. Overclocking doesn’t get you much here.

Cyberpunk 2077

XFX QuickSilver Radeon RX 9070 OC Gaming Edition: performance: Ray Tracing Cyberpunk 2077

This performance is outstanding for the XFX QuickSilver Radeon RX 9070 OC Gaming Edition. A win across the board, although the native resolution is unplayable, 7% gain. Upscaled nearly doubled at 13%.

Star Wars Outlaws

XFX QuickSilver Radeon RX 9070 OC Gaming Edition: performance: Ray Tracing Star Wars Outlaws

The only playable video card in this situation is the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 GAMING TRIO OC, and then only upscaled. Another brusing game for the XFX QuickSilver Radeon RX 9070 OC Gaming Edition. Off the mark by 45%……ouch.

SUMMARY

This review evaluates the XFX QuickSilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC Gaming Edition video card. This video card has a sleek design with excellent cooling. XFX sends the card out with a generous factory overclock which can be improved upon, gaining extra performance, thanks to a higher TDP for the AMD Radeon RX 9070. The card outperforms the competition and is an excellent graphics card for 1440p gaming at a good price point with 16GB of VRAM, which is important at this price point and for today's gaming experience.
