Three years after release, Elden Ring continues to set new sales records as its first DLC and standalone co-op reach new milestones. It may not be for everyone, but FromSoftware’s bank accounts would never know it from the cash that continues to roll in from sales for its Elden Ring franchise. According to a new press release, sales numbers for the first DLC, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, have sold over 10 million units, and the newly released co-op experiment, Elden Ring Nightreign, is off to a good start and, despite mixed reviews, has already sold over 5 million units.

Per Press Release:

“ELDEN RING™ Shadow of the Erdtree™, the DLC expansion to the original game recently surpassed more than 10 million units worldwide. Itself critically acclaimed and several game of the year nominations, Shadow of the Erdtree provided a new look at the mysticism and lore of ELDEN RING, taking players from the Lands Between to the Realm of Shadow, where they must follow in Miquella’s footsteps to discover more of what happened with Marika, the golden order, and the DLC’s enigmatic villain, Messmer the Impaler.

ELDEN RING™ NIGHTREIGN™ released back in May of this year as a standalone multiplayer co-op action survival game. Selling more than 2 million units less than 24 hours after becoming publicly available, the game has already surpassed 5 million units globally less than two months after launching. Players never experience the same journey twice, and features encounters from giant enemies seen in ELDEN RING or older DARK SOULS® games.”

Meanwhile, the train is still full speed ahead with the developer having announced Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for the recently launched Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the popular game to the hybrid system, which also includes the DLC mentioned above. But wait, there’s more! It has also been announced that a two-player mode is coming to Nightreign next week in patch 1.02. The upcoming patch is also expected to include QoL updates and bug fixes.

And that’s not all, because it was also revealed back in May that filmmaker Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Years Later) is working on a movie adaptation of the blockbuster game.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
