MSI GeForce RTX 5090 32G SUPRIM SOC: MSI Afterburner OC settings

For our overclocking trials, we utilized MSI Afterburner version 4.6.6 Beta5. Quite honestly, there was minimal adjustment available as the power limit, VCore, and Temperature limits were all greyed out. The whole process was a bit nerve-wracking, knowing that the “Gaming” mode setting pushed the available power to its 600 Watt maximum. As visions of smoke and the smell of burning plastic came to mind, we pressed on…..because…..well……SCIENCE.

We left the fans set to their automatic cycle for the overclocking. Above, you can see the settings we arrived at. GPU clock was advanced +195MHz, while the memory clocks were advanced all the way to the right, +2000MHz. The video card performed flawlessly at these settings. None of our games had issues. The fans were inaudible on the open bench, never passing 44% with a temperature of 65 °C.

By default, the average Boost clock in the benchmark was 2832MHz. This represents a 10% increase from the factory setting. With our overclock applied, the average Boost clock was 3007MHz, a 17% increase compared to the factory setting. That’s a pretty remarkable increase. We will see how this all plays out in real-time benchmarks.

SUMMARY

We reviewed the top-of-the-line RTX 5090 video card from MSI, the MSI GeForce RTX 5090 32G SUPRIM SOC. This is a beautifully made, well cooled, top performing video card. Quite simply one of the best video cards money can buy at this time. This card out-performs it's predecessor by over 30%. Unfortunately the price is almost doubled, which makes this card one of the most expensive gaming video cards ever. If that doesn't stop you from purchasing one, you will not be disappointed.
