Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 was launched in October of 2023 and runs on the Northlight Engine. The game features high-quality assets, volumetric fog, animated foliage, advanced volumetric lighting, high-detail character models, and dense foliage. It also features full Ray Tracing and Path Tracing options that can be enabled with ray-traced reflections and shadows, along with DLSS Ray Reconstruction. It also supports RTX Mega Geometry, DLSS, and FSR Upscaling and Frame Generation. For our testing, we are going to use the in-game graphics preset options for the main quality option, as well as the Ray Tracing preset as needed. Our testing scenario is a manual run-through in the INITIATION 5 – ROOM 665 map.
Native Resolution
The first graph below is at the “Medium” quality preset, the second graph is at the “Low” quality preset at 1080p.

In Alan Wake 2, in order to get a playable experience on the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5050 SOLO at Native Resolution 1080p, we need to drop down to the “Medium” graphics preset in the game. At medium, it averages near 60FPS, and with DLSS Upscaling at Quality, near 80FPS. The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5050 SOLO is 55% faster than the GeForce RTX 3050, as a generational upgrade. It seems to be on par with the GeForce RTX 4060 and is 10% slower than the Radeon RX 7600. Overclocking only improved performance by about 4%.
If you really want faster performance at Native Resolution 1080p, running the game on Low graphics preset gives you above 60FPS average on the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5050 SOLO. It seems to get above 60FPS, you will have to run on Low here, else use DLSS Upscaling. At Low, the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5050 SOLO is 53% faster than the GeForce RTX 3050, again on par with the GeForce RTX 4060, and the Radeon RX 7600 is 16% faster.
Ray Tracing w/ DLSS Upscaling

We don’t expect the GeForce RTX 5050 to do real well with Ray Tracing, still we did want to try it out and see how it compares. Here in Alan Wake 2, we are running at 1080p with the High game preset, and Medium Ray Tracing Preset with DLSS Upscaling set to Quality mode. The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5050 SOLO is 76% faster than the GeForce RTX 3050, so this shows that with Ray Tracing, performance is greater than that of raster with the RTX 5050 over the RTX 3050. However, it is 6% slower than the GeForce RTX 4060. Overclocking, again, added 4% more to performance.
