Someone has taken on the more challenging task of replacing the more generic voiceovers in Skyrim with those of other professional voice actors. So stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Someone has released a mod for Skyrim, and there you go, because we’ve all heard this a thousand times over, but how often have we heard of someone hiring voice actors to re-voice NPCs in the game? Well, that’s exactly what Nexus Mod member “spdude” has and is doing with their Skyrim Revoiced project. They had previously announced another similar project called Skyrim Vocal Diversity, which used AI to change the pitch and other characteristics of the original voiceovers, but (as spotted by DSOG) have since moved on to using human actors to record new lines for various NPCs.
“Vanilla Skyrim has good voice acting, but Bethesda only used a relatively small pool of voice actors to voice over more than a 1000 characters in Skyrim. When walking through any city, it is common to hear the same voices coming from multiple characters. Skyrim Revoiced aims to change that. Thanks to the hard work of a talented team of voice actors, Skyrim Revoiced introduces 8 new voice types for 48 NPCs across Skyrim, covering over 5000+ lines of both vanilla and modded dialogue.”

Ambitious doesn’t quite describe what this person has done, but many a gamer can appreciate the effort in adding some more flavor to what can be bland when it comes to the 1000s of voiceovers in an RPG. Whether it’s your first playthrough, or 10th or more, it doesn’t take a whole lot to start recognizing how many NPCs start to sound the same, so hats off to this author for their ongoing efforts.
