UEFI/BIOS

The MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK MAX WiFi PZ uses the “Click X” BIOS. The BIOS layout and menus is essentially identical to the MSI B850 GAMING PLUS WiFi PZ.  The physical BIOS chip has been increased to 64MB to accommodate future needs. This is an AMI BIOS that is designed for ease of navigation and very simple, straightforward menu organisation. On initial boot, you are greeted by the “Performance” screen, essentially asking if you wish to enable Precision Boost Overdrive.

You are then taken to the EZ Mode screen, which has almost everything you need. We are impressed by the ease of navigation and menu organisation of EZ Mode. Nearly everything you need at initial boot is on this menu screen. The Boot order is especially easy, a simple drag and drop. BIOS Flash and Hardware monitor are also one-click operations. The Advanced Mode screen is organised to allow one to set CPU and Memory overclocking as well as all the motherboard I/O options. The Click X BIOS is one-click oriented, with very responsive navigation.

Our MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK MAX WiFi PZ arrived with BIOS version E7E84.AMSI.1A0G dated 06 AUG 25. We updated the BIOS to version E7E84.AMSI.1A10 dated 18 SEP 25. We used the M-Flash BIOS utility, which we have discussed in other MSI reviews. This utility uses an unzipped BIOS version on a flash drive. Once you identify the correct file, the utility does all the work. MSI also offers “Flash-BIOS” from the rear I/O panel, which needs only a flash drive and a PSU.

All in all, the MSI Click X BIOS is simple to use, well-organised and has reasonably good explanations of functions when they are highlighted. On the motherboard’s webpage, under support, you may also download a very detailed BIOS guide, which is quite complete. Also, please refer to the Introduction page of this review, as there is quite a collection of slides that discuss the new CPU and Memory overclocking presets. The Advanced BIOS Mode seems to be constructed very much toward one-click AI-directed overclocking, but nonetheless offers detailed manual overclocking options as well.

SUMMARY

This is the third in a series of reviews featuring MSI Project Zero design concept. The MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK MAX WiFi PZ is a crisp clean design refresh and fully Back-Connected. The motherboard is a very capable Gaming Platform. There is essentially no difference in design or performance compared to the MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WiFi, excepting that the Back Connect function allows for a much cleaner PC build. We also took a deep look at the BIOS setting X3D Gaming Mode. This motherboard represents the top tier in MSIs Project Zero lineup. It is a very crisp design that allows for a virtually cable free desktop PC build. We think it very innovative and well worth a hard look.
