After years of rumors, the online multiplayer Horizon game is officially real and called Hunters Gathering, and will launch for PC and PS5. Horizon Hunters Gathering appears to keep elements of the original games, but there’s no denying its similarities to Fortnite either. The three-player co-op is set after the events of Horizon Forbidden West, pitting players against machines in an assortment of arena-styled environments. The overall idea sticks to the formula usually employed by assembling a team where players utilize characters with unique skill sets and weapons to beat a common enemy. In this case, everything is set to the familiar settings of the post-apocalyptic Earth as seen in the Horizon franchise.

“Choose from a roster of uniquely skilled Hunters, squad up in teams of up to three players, and rally for the hunt as you face off against a deadly machine threat in action-packed combat and high-stake missions.”

-Guerrilla Games

Interestingly enough, Guerrilla Games has opted not to adhere to a traditional beat-em-up design, instead revealing that an underlying story unfolds as the game progresses. The developers have not revealed much more about what this new lore will add to the story, but have said that it will be canon. There’s still no word on what many hope to be trilogy finishing game to follow up on the events of Horizon Forbidden West, but it sounds as if the developers are laying out a path for it. Only time will tell, but meanwhile, those interested in joining playtests can learn more here. The developers have not indicated when Hunters Gathering will launch, but it’s possible we could see it released this year.

Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
