Motherboard Performance

Testing the MSI MAG X870E GAMING PLUS MAX WiFi was accomplished using the benchmarks below. The following components were used: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB at 6000MT/s (CMH32G5M2D6000C36), MSI Spatium M580 Gen5 NVME, and the XFX Swift Radeon RX 9070 XT White Gaming Edition graphics card. Comparison results are discussed from the recent review of the MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WiFi, as that board is equally outfitted. Below you will find a gallery of result screenshots from our testing protocol and a brief discussion of the results compared to the above-mentioned motherboard with the same or similar components.

In comparison to the MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WiFi testing, the MAG X870E GAMING PLUS MAX WiFi shows essentially identical performance across the entire testing suite. There is no glaring difference in performance between these two X870E chipset motherboards, which, given how they were outfitted, is fully expected.

VRM Temperature

MSI MAG X870E GAMING PLUS MAX WiFi motherboard: performance-vrm tEMPERATURE

In this test, we run Cinebench R23 multicore for 20 minutes minimum and then record the temperatures across the heatsinks using HWInfo64.  The CPU temperatures reached a maximum of 93C, 100% utilization and 5329MHz. VRM temperatures averaged 36C. There was no thermal throttle and no stability issues encountered. Despite the high CPU temperatures encountered (poor thermal paste application) the VRM temperatures were actually the lowest we have seen over the last five motherboard reviews from MSI. Regardless, the board stayed perfectly stable.

SUMMARY

This review examines the MSI MAG X870E GAMING PLUS MAX WiFi motherboard. The "MAX" signifies the motherboard has been given a few new updates compared to the non-MAX version. The board performs well in all testing and scores the same as other MSI X870E boards we have tested using same components. The new white and silver look is very well done. While "refreshed" for 2026, the cost add-on should be considered before purchase.
