One could be forgiven if Pragmata isn’t on their radar, but after 2 million downloads for its demo, Capcom is confident about its April 17 release. While new hardware releases are mostly a disaster right now, except for some interesting offerings by Intel and AMD in the CPU department, game releases have been somewhat inspiring since the fall. We’ve even seen some unusual successes with indie titles such as Arc Raiders and, very recently, Crimson Desert. Last year also had huge hits with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hollow Knight: Silksong, so Pragmata, while not truly an indie title since being published by Capcom, could be the next big thing. One thing that sets these titles apart from most new titles is that they are not continuations of pre-existing franchises, thus showing that the gaming community is hungry for new content.

“In the near future.
Several years have passed since humanity discovered lunum ore. With it they researched Lunafilament, a material capable of replicating anything, as long as they have its data. One day without warning, they lost all signals to the lunar research station dedicated to the research and development of this Lunafilament.

A response team was dispatched immediately.
However, a massive lunar quake hit soon after they arrived. Hugh Williams—separated from his team, unconscious and badly injured—is discovered by a mysterious android
in the form of a young girl.

She is a Pragmata, created using Lunafilament.”

Pragmata looks to pull all the strings for tear-jerker moments with its protagonists enduring dangerous moments and everything to lose, and is a story-driven, third-person experience focused on a human character named Hugh and android named Diana. Capcom actually pushed the release date up from April 24 to 17, a rare move these days with many titles getting delayed due to significant quality issues needing to be addressed. Pragmata is being launched on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
