Skyblivion Lead Is “Pretty Optimistic” But Acknowledges Another Delay Is Possible

Skyblivion, the fan-built total conversion that recreates The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion inside Skyrim’s engine, is getting close to the finish line. Or at least, that’s the most current read from project lead Rebelzize, who spoke to PC Gamer this week after the team put out a new call for experienced volunteer mod authors across all departments.

“From what I see internally, I am pretty optimistic,” Rebelzize said. “All quest locations are finished and QA’d, the Imperial City has gotten the breakthrough we needed to push that through, and I hope soon to have the city completed in terms of level design. Mechanics are in good shape, and we are quashing bugs left and right.” The Imperial City was the single biggest remaining content blocker when the project slipped its 2025 window last December, so the reported breakthrough there is meaningful.

The caveat: “There’s always the chance [things go wrong] and we suffer another major setback.” That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of certainty, but it’s honest, and this is a volunteer project that’s been running for over 14 years with no budget and no firm deadline. The recruitment push is framed as bringing in a few extra hands to maintain momentum rather than plugging critical gaps. Rebelzize was also pointedly blunt toward fans inclined toward doom-and-gloom takes, noting that the team has nothing but good intentions and is moving as fast as it can.

For Skyrim players on PC who remember Oblivion fondly, the wait continues, but it sounds like the end is at least within sight. The interactive map of the completed Cyrodiil world is live at skyblivion.com if you want to see how much of the work is already done.
