STAR WARS: Battlefront Classic Collection, a new “definitive” collection of Star Wars games that brings the original Battlefront (2004) and Battlefront II (2005) titles from Pandemic Studios and LucasArts to modern platforms, is now available, developer Aspyr Media has announced. The launch of the game has been labeled “awful” by PC players, however, with many on Steam complaining about how the game only had three servers at launch, among other issues.

Critics are saying:

  • “First hour of launch. Only have 3 servers to join. Massing about 200 people rounded up. Seriously. W** is this?”
  • “…let me get this straight. You launched this game with only 3 servers on PC knowing full well people only bought it for that sole reason?”
  • “Probably one of the worst launches of all time, none of us can get in a game and there are only 3 servers lol..”
  • “Paid £25 for a PS2 Game, that is worse than the PS2 Game.”
  • “this is AWFUL DO NOT BUY THIS until they fix the multiplayer, unless youre like me and didn’t have the old versions anymore theres no point to buy this.”
  • “They somehow unfinished a finished game. Impressive.”

The collection includes:

  • STAR WARS Battlefront (Classic)
    • Includes Bonus Map: Jabba’s Palace
  • STAR WARS Battlefront II
    • Includes Bonus Maps: Bespin: Cloud City, Rhen Var: Harbor, Rhen Var: Citadel, and Yavin 4: Arena
    • Includes Bonus Heroes: Asajj Ventress & Kit Fisto

Platforms/pricing:

  • PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One ($34.99)
  • Nintendo Switch, PC ($35.01)

Aspyr on its (apparently disappointing) attempt:

Relive intense battles from across the STAR WARS galaxy in the STAR WARS: Battlefront Classic Collection. Jump into thrilling firefights across massive battlefields on the ground, in the air, and in space as the Empire, Rebellion, Republic, and Separatist Alliance. Choose from an array of unique classes, pilot a multitude of vehicles, and play as legendary heroes and villains from multiple eras of the saga in solo, local, and online play.

I had a good laugh at this part:

  • “They somehow unfinished a finished game. Impressive.”

Had this in my wishlist; honestly impressed as 'Mostly Negative' can be considered to be a challenging achievement. Wonder how the performance review is going to go for the PM that said 'ship it anyway'.

Meanwhile, from today's Embracer Group story:

I bet someone at Embracer is doing a facepalm over this.

Yeah I haven't really seen anything positive about this title yet myself.

Well, the original games were great. Maybe EA's trying to rewrite history by ruining everyone's memories of these games so that the garbage they put out in the future will look good by comparison?

Yeah, I loved those 1st two games. Had both on PS2 and still have my original physical PC versions sitting on a shelf in the cave. It was at a time when they were spewing SW titles at the drop of a hat and only a few were worth anything.

Played the Hoth mission with a 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics - Orchid Righteous 3D. There's significant nostalgia on the line here, and if EA hadn't fumbled this release, they'd have gotten a sale.

Too bad.

I remember the originals very well, just haven't heard anything good about this release.

The oddest to me is the install size.

Supposedly its 4k textures and the cutscene files. Maps are apparently 500MB each.
