The Z790 PROJECT ZERO PLUS, a new motherboard from MSI, will be one of the first motherboards from the company to feature support for CAMM2, a brand-new memory module standard that will deliver higher capacities, faster speeds, and more to desktop enthusiasts under a thinner profile, according to a tweet that the MSI Gaming account shared today. The motherboard, which is getting a full reveal at COMPUTEX 2024, can be seen with a DDR5 version of Kingston’s FURY Impact memory.
The word from MSI:
MSI and @kingstontech are previewing the next revolution in memory design, the DDR5 CAMM2. JEDEC on the new CAMM2 memory module standard, which it published in December 2023:
DDR5 and LPDDR5/5X CAMM2s cater to distinct use cases. DDR5 CAMM2s are intended for performance notebooks and mainstream desktops, while LPDDR5/5X CAMM2s target a broader range of notebooks and certain server market segments.
While JESD318 CAMM2 defines a common connector design for both DDR5 and LPDDR5/X, it is crucial to note that the pinouts for each differ. To support different motherboard designs, intentional variations in mounting procedures between DDR5 and LPDDR5/X CAMM2s prevent the mounting of a module where it should not go.
