Destiny 2: The Final Shape, the eighth major expansion for Bungie’s first-person shooter and the final chapter in the “Light & Darkness Saga,” didn’t have the greatest launch yesterday, with many players across PC, PlayStation, and other platforms complaining of connectivity and stability issues, but many of those problems should now be resolved, according to an update from the Destiny 2 team that explains how several critical issues, including “Kick to Orbit” errors, should now be resolved. Featuring a Legendary campaign, new Exotics, and more, The Final Shape is now available at a starting price of $49.99.

Bungie reports:

  • “Last night, we solved several critical issues causing poor stability and heavily reduced the amount of ‘Kick to Orbit’ errors as you can see in this graph.”
  • “We are closely monitoring the player population and will be increasing server capacity throughout the day to ensure the game remains in a stable state.”
  • “As the population increases, players may hit a queue, but our goal is to get everyone in as swiftly as possible.”
  • “We encourage everyone to jump into The Final Shape today, and we thank you for your patience.”

Bungie apologizing for the issues yesterday, which included Honeydew errors and players getting kicked out of activities:

As for what’s been accomplished so far:

Destiny 2: The Final Shape features include:

  • Prismatic – “For the first time in Destiny, weave Darkness and Light powers together with the Prismatic subclass. Balance the Light and Darkness to earn Transcendence, unlock new abilities, and unleash the true power of Prismatic.”
  • The Pale Heart – “For a decade, Destiny players have stared at the Traveler with wonder. Now, they will enter it for the very first time. Explore this new destination, an unraveling landscape that echoes with the deeds of Guardians’ pasts. By persevering in this mysterious place, players will uncover what lies at the center of the Traveler, warped by the Witness.”
  • Legendary Campaign – “The stakes have never been higher, nor has the challenge. Legendary campaign returns with The Final Shape, with the promise of greater rewards, and the threat of a challenge that only a Guardian and their fireteam can face.”
  • Exotic Class Items – “For the first time in Destiny 2, players will be able to don Exotic class items. These items will feature popular perks from other well-known Exotic gear and even from other classes, empowering players to mix and match two perk abilities for the first time.”

With the release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape, Bungie revealed a new crossover partnership between Destiny 2 and Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons & Dragons, which will include in-game items in Destiny 2 inspired by the legendary tabletop roleplaying game. In addition, the Bungie Store will also be offering an Eye Tyrant Beholder Ghost Shell vinyl figure, inspired by the fearsome multi-eyed D&D monster.
