Bloober Team says it’s done making ***tty games and has found its niche with the successful launch of its Silent Hill 2 remake. The remake launched a couple of weeks ago on October 8 for PC and PlayStation 5 (exclusive for one year) and has gone on to sell over 1 million units in a matter of days according to a recent post by Konami. The celebratory thank you was reposted again to fans over the weekend for the impressive achievement and some are already suggesting the game should be nominated for Horror Game of the Year.

Meanwhile Bloober Team’s director and designer Wojciech Piejko has been making rounds with media outlets along with director and producer Jacek Zieba. The two have been promoting the remake while announcing their latest sci-fi horror project Cronos: The New Dawn, but also sharing how the company, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, has found its niche. When asked if Bloober Team would be interested in making more Silent Hill games it was said they are always open to the opportunity.

Per IGN:

  • “I think we are always open,” Zieba said. “If we like the opportunity, we’ll take it.”
  • “There are opportunities that you have to seize,” Piejko added. “Like Silent Hill 2, you can remake the legend. So yeah, I do believe that everything’s possible.”

Per GameSpot:

  • “We want to be a horror company,” Zieba told me. “We want to find our niche, and we think we found our niche, so now we just–let’s evolve with it. […] And how that happens is more complex, but it also happens organically in a way, like with [2016’s] Layers of Fear, people in the studio were like, ‘Okay, we made some shitty games before, but we [can] evolve.”
  • “We gathered a team that loves horror,” Piejko added. “So I think, for us, it would not be easy to switch [to other genres], and we don’t want to.”

The developer, who has had its share of misfires, seems on track with the direction it’s heading on with future games. Although the Silent Hill 2 remake might be its most successful project to date it still has some others worth noting such as 2016’s Layers of Fear which the developer says was a turning point, Observer System Redux which featured the late Rutger Huaer voicing the main character, and The Medium which gained attention for its dual-reality game design.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
