Fans of the first game are anxiously awaiting a Hogwarts Legacy sequel and now there’s news it will tie in with the upcoming series. HBO, aka HBO Max>Max, and possibly some other rebranded name in the future given the even longer history of changes for HBO in recent years, is the home of the Harry Potter films and its spin-off projects. The upcoming series is said to debut in 2026 and will further delve into areas of the books not fully covered in the movies. Meanwhile, Hogwarts Legacy launched in 2023 to become one of the year’s best-selling games, is Warner Bros. Games’ biggest title launch to date and has since sold over 30 million units.

It was only a couple of months ago that Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels said that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is one of the company’s biggest priorities. Warner Bros. has committed to expanding its Harry Potter franchise through game titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, and its Lego games along with the upcoming series, but also a “Wizards of Baking” show which will debut on the Food Network. Warner Bros. is also aware that there’s no age distinction among fans when it comes to which media fans will enjoy.

Per David Haddad (via Variety):

  • “We have known for some time that fans are looking for more things in this world, and so we’re spending a lot of time thinking about that,” says David Haddad, president of Warner Bros.
  • “Our insights tell us that there are not huge distinctions between a younger version of a fan and an older version of a fan. They’re just deep ‘Harry Potter’ fans, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them.

Haddad goes on to share that Warner Bros. game developers have been working to incorporate elements for the Harry Potter series into the next game. He adds that the success of the first game has inspired confidence for making a push to develop the series and that “The rest of the company was very curious about what we helped to unlock with ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ last year.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
