PC Gamers looking for a discounted GeForce RTX 40 series GPU may want to make their move soon as NVIDIA warns of an upcoming shortage. Yesterday’s financials report may be good news for investors but another side of the current state of gaming GPU supply was spoken about that doesn’t paint as nice of a picture for those hoping for a Black Friday deal. NVIDIA CFO Collette Kress revealed that while the GPU manufacturer is preparing to launch its next generation of products there could be a shortage of current backstock as inventory dries up.

Per CFO Collette Kress (via Tom’s Hardware):

“Our gaming supply, given what we saw selling through, was moving quite fast. Now the challenge that we have is, how fast could we get that supply getting ready into the market for this quarter? Not to worry, I think we’ll be back on track with more supply as we turn the corner into the new calendar year.”

As NVIDIA warns of a gaming GPU shortage the idea of it should really be taken as a water-is-wet moment due to multiple reports of various RTX 40 series models being discontinued coming in since the end of summer. These announcements have already seen its flagship GeForce RTX 4090 prices spiking well above MSRP for months now. PC owners holding out for that perfect Black Friday deal might get lucky then but may also want to consider pulling the trigger on something on sale now as some retailers have begun discounting their stock already. Below are some of NVIDIA’s “SUPER” lineup of GPUs and while the names may not appeal to everyone they do represent the most powerful versions of its RTX 40 series graphics cards released, with the exception of its flagship RTX 4090. It’s worth noting that some are currently available under their MSRP.

RTX 50 Series Launch

Ongoing rumors suggest that the GeForce RTX 50 series will launch in Q1 2025 and will be formally revealed at CES 2025. However, it is possible that NVIDIA might have something planned before then. The other rumor is that the GPU manufacturer could launch as many as four different models that might include the GeForce RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. While pricing and final specifications are still not known the real trick for consumers will be if they can get ahold of their preferred card before scalpers do.

Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982.
