GIGABYTE has announced a new BIOS feature that can unlock an additional significant amount of performance on its Z890 chipset motherboards. The new BIOS update introduces the Ultra Turbo Mode that enables the motherboard to optimize settings for processor and memory frequencies, and latency, while also checking for power limits. Ultra Turbo Mode can be used with Intel Core Ultra 200S series processors, including Core Ultra 5/7/9 models. GIGABYTE (per a press release via TechPowerUp) has stated that there are three modes to choose from.

The LV1 setting is based on Intel’s 200S boost settings, a feature that Intel has continued to improve, which recently resulted in up to 10 FPS gains being reported on with a Core Ultra 7 265K CPU after a limited overseas firmware release. LV2 pushes things a bit further using GIGABYTE’s CPU/DRAM overclocking profiles for additional performance, while LV3 pushes hardware settings to their max. GIGABYTE has stated that up to 35% higher frame rates can be achieved, along with up to 68% performance boost for memory as seen in AIDA64 tests.

Press Release Excerpt:

“By intelligently optimizing BIOS settings, this revolutionary feature unlocks hidden potential in the latest Intel Core Ultra 2 9/7/5 K-SKU processors. The results are impressive: memory performance achieves a remarkable boost of up to 68% in AIDA64 testing across various high-performance memory configurations. Gaming performance also sees significant gains, with up to 35% higher frame rates in demanding AAA titles like Hitman 3: Dartmoor.”

Something that has held back the Z890 platform from wider adoption has been cost, but thankfully, GIGABYTE has released a wide range of motherboards based on the current chipset, and while premium models still go from $300 to over $400, there are more than a few that can be had in the $170-$260 range. We have a review of the GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 here. Also, recently, there have been price drops for the aforementioned Core Ultra 7 265K and KF (does not include integrated graphics) models.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
