
SanDisk has launched its new Optimus GX PRO 850P NVME SSD lineup for PS5 consoles, featuring an exclusive heatsink design and logo. For the low, low price of $2959.99 (discounted from $3699.99), PlayStation 5 owners can at a minimum spend as much as 3x for storage than they did for their console. This staggering price is, of course, for the flagship 8TB model, which, given the average AAA title install size of around 130-150GB, has enough storage space for between 53 and 61 games.

Kidding aside, although ouch, that sticker shock still hurts, SanDisk is offering premium features with its PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 Optimus GX PRO 850P NVMe SSDs. Capacities range from 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and up to 8TB. Sequential read speeds for 1TB-4TB are 7,300 MB/s, while the 8TB model is slightly slower at 7,200 MB/s, and all come with a 5-year limited warranty and exclusively designed heatsinks featuring the PlayStation logo. Sequential write speeds for 2TB-8TB models are 6,600 MB/s, while the 1 TB is a little slower at 6,300 MB/s

Of course, PC users can also opt to purchase and install any of these Optimus GX PRO 850P NVMe SSDs in their builds since they do conform to the standard M.2 2280 form factor and support PCIe 4.0. The exclusive heatsink could be quite beneficial for cooling at high speeds as well, but users should check for motherboard compatibility beforehand if height restrictions are an issue.
