CD Projekt Red and Netflix have officially revealed that another series of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is on its way. The first season of the anime series made its debut in 2022 and became an instant hit with fans of the franchise while also gaining new ones. A new teaser trailer, along with promotional artwork, has been released to help get things moving again before the next season arrives this fall. The 90-second trailer has already been viewed over 3.2 million times in 24 hours.

“Gear up for a return to the world of Cyberpunk, where only the ruthless survive and one wrong move can get you flatlined. This standalone story throws a fresh cast of characters into the darkest corners of Night City and brings a raw, gritty take on the world of the future. Lawless and unforgiving, this is Night City at its most brutal.”

As stated by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will focus on a new set of characters and features the return of Director Kai Ikarashi (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, SSSS.Gridman) and lead designer Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners). Bartosz Sztybor also returns as the series showrunner, story writer, and producer and happens to be CD Projekt Red’s Comic Book & Animation Narrative Director, who has won multiple awards for the 2023 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story/Comic for Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams and Best Short Comic from the Łódź International Comics Festival (MFK).

Some of the new characters include “Weak”, a veteran edgerunner who has faded away over time, “D”, a Snake Nation netrunner out for revenge, “Roman” a young filmaker trying to make their way into documenting the truth, “Talia”, a hardened Corpo with deep gang ties. CD Projekt Red will be at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles from July 2-5 and will host a panel on July 3 featuring its showrunner, director, executive producer, content creator, and “D” voice actor. The panel is dedicated to the new series where one episode will be shown in an exclusive screening.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
