Never a dull moment these days in the gaming industry as developers hope to dodge a bullet with a studio closure, and the developers behind EXODUS have reason for a sigh of relief. Hasbro has just published its latest financials, which have revealed that some untitled projects have been put out to pasture before their time. This unfortunate trend has been somewhat rampant in recent weeks following the massive layoffs at Xbox. Archetype Entertainment, a studio formed by ex-BioWare staff and other reputable veterans, which is based in Texas, where a number of studio closures have happened, is the studio behind EXODUS.
“Welcome to Archetype Entertainment, a game development studio located in Austin, Texas, led by industry veterans from BioWare, 343, Electronic Arts, Naughty Dog, and other leading AAA studios.”
Perhaps given their diversity, some of those folks from id Software or Arcane Austin might be able to find a new home at Archetype. Meanwhile, Hasbro has said it is cancelling multiple game projects so it can focus on its well-established tabletop and trading card franchises, particularly Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons. Speaking of D&D, Warlock, a new single-player 3rd person game that’s been in development by INVOKE, is the other title alongside EXODUS that escaped the chopping block.
Warlock description:
“In WARLOCK, you take on the role of Kaatri, a veteran warrior, in a new third-person action-adventure set in a dark fantasy open world inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. Make a pact to wield forbidden magic to overcome a wide range of challenges. In exploration, every spell is a key that unlocks mysteries in a beautiful yet unsettling world. When facing enemies, magic and melee combine for a combat experience that is both tactical and visceral.”
Both EXODUS and Warlock are expected to launch for PC and consoles in 2027 and could be among the many games that will be shown at Gamescom 2026 next month.
