The Seasonic Prime Enterprise RX-1600 PSU is the first to earn the 80 PLUS Ruby certification at 115V, which monitors load points at 5% and 10% power usage. The new Ruby certification is designed to track power efficiency during times when the system is idle, which many are a majority of the time. Earning this rating requires meeting multiple targets, including thermal design, component selection, switching control, and completing the validation process. According to CLEAResult, the 80 Plus administering agency, Ruby certification still tracks previous load points, bringing the total to 6 tracking points.
- 85% efficiency at 5% load
- 91% efficiency at 10% load
- 93% efficiency at 20% load
- 95% efficiency at 50% load
- 91% efficiency at 100% load
- Power factor of at least 0.95 at 20% load
“Ruby sets a new standard for what high-performance power supplies can achieve, including efficiency at low load — which is where most systems spend the majority of their time,”
– Jeremy Townsend, Senior Vice President, Delivery Services CLEAResult
Seasonic has participated in the 80 Plus program since it began in 2005 and was the first manufacturer to get certified with its Seasonic SS-400HT and, per the press release, “the first to bring a complete family of four certified products to market that same year.” Only a few years later, the manufacturer became the first to earn 80 Plus Gold certification. Since then, Season has gone on to win many awards for its power supplies, and having its Prime Enterprise RX-1600 be the first to earn the new Ruby certification represents a continued commitment to quality and power efficiency.
“Reaching Ruby at 115 V reflects the continued focus on efficiency in our engineering work. We are at a point where every additional percent of efficiency is difficult to achieve, but the effort is worthwhile because these small gains translate into enormous savings on a global scale.”
– Seasonic
While a bit older, we do have several reviews of Seasonic PSUs that demonstrate the attention to quality the manufacturer is known for. They can be found here in our Power Supply Review section.
