Hand sanitizer, masks, and toilet paper aren’t the only things that are flying off the shelves these days. Nintendo’s portable Switch console is also impossible to find at nearly every major retailer – at standard MSRP ($300), at least.
“Nintendo Switch hardware is selling out at various retail locations in the U.S., but more systems are on the way,” Nintendo explained in a statement to GameSpot. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Nintendo fans who are desperate can still look to third-party sellers, but the price gouging is pretty severe. Most of Amazon’s listings are over $500, while the situation over at eBay is no better, with the new Animal Crossing: New Horizon Special Edition nearing $600.
The Nintendo Switch Lite seems easier to find at prices that are closer to MSRP ($200), but again, prospective buyers may have to do business with third-party sellers. It looks like GameStop is the only store that has them for immediate shipment.
Nintendo didn’t say when more systems are coming, but shortages are expected to continue due to the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on manufacturing and supply chains.
