Xbox Series X|S owners can now enjoy Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice at a level of graphical fidelity that’s even greater than its PC counterpart thanks to new optimizations launched by Microsoft and developer Ninja Theory today, which grant heightened visuals via DirectX ray tracing, new resolution modes, and more.

Now sporting the Xbox Series X|S Optimized badge, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice loads even faster on Xbox Series X|S consoles and benefits from a new Enriched Visuals mode that enables one of the update’s most exciting enhancements, ray tracing, in the Xbox Series X version of the game. DirectX ray tracing brings Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice to life with ray traced reflections.

Originally released on August 8, 2017, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has engrossed an incredible 6.3 million total players across all platforms thus far thanks to its rich narrative centered on a female Viking warrior who must traverse a dark fantasy world in order to rescue the soul of her dead lover from Hela, goddess of the underworld.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has received critical acclaim and won various BAFTA awards that include British Game, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, and Game Beyond Entertainment. The title also won The Game Awards’ Best Performance, Best Audio Design, and Games for Impact trophies in 2017.

A sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was announced alongside the Xbox Series X console in December 12, 2019. Called Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, the second game will serve as a direct sequel that leverages the full power of Microsoft’s next-gen console.

Ninja Theory says that a similar visual upgrade for the PC version of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is in the works.
