American Vandal’s Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault have successfully pitched a new series to Paramount+ called Players, a mockumentary that follows a fictional League of Legends team. Released in 2009, it is one of the most popular esports games on the planet. There is sure to be plenty of material to draw upon.
The pair will share executive producer credits alongside Joe Farrell and Mike Farah (Funny or Die), Riot Games, 3Arts’ Ari Lubet, Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ Todd Sellers, and Tim McAuliffe. Tony Yacenda will direct the project, while CBS Studios and Funny or Die will produce it. Casting and launch details for the new show have not been revealed. Since Riot Games will have some involvement with the project, there should be some authenticity to the show.
Players follows a fictional pro League of Legends team as they pursue their first championship after years of close calls and heartache. To win it all, they will need their prodigy, a 17-year-old rookie, and their 27-year-old veteran to put their egos aside and work together.
