A new Predator movie was announced on Disney+ Day. The prequel called Prey will debut in summer 2022 on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney Plus Star overseas. It will take place in 1719 with a hunter landing in the Comanche Nation. A young warrior will face off against the apex alien as she tries to protect her tribe. It is directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) with a script by Patrick Aison (Kingdom, Jack Ryan, and Treadstone) and produced by Sundance alumni Jhane Myers. The main character is named Naru and played by Amber Midthunder.
The movie will see the Predator facing off against the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. The action-thriller follows Naru, the skilled warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator. The concept art below shows the giant hunter stalking Naru though a misty, frigid forest.
The movie had been shooting under the codename “Skulls.” Director of photography Jeff Cutter (10 Cloverfield Lane, Paul) recently shared an image on social media thanking the crew as the movie wrapped up filming in Calgary. It is worth noting that the director, DOP, and scriptwriter have all worked together on various episodes of season 3 of The Boys for Amazon Prime.
It appears that 20th Century Studios is looking to take the franchise back to its roots. It follows 2018’s poorly received The Predator.
