Ubisoft Resets Company Passwords after Cyber Security Incident

Ubisoft says it experienced a cyber security incident last week. The publisher did not clarify the severity of the incident but said it has taken precautionary measures. It is currently investigating the matter and says there is no evidence of confidential player information being taken. It added that all games and services are operating as normal.

Official Statement

Last week, Ubisoft experienced a cyber security incident that caused temporary disruption to some of our games, systems, and services. Our IT teams are working with leading external experts to investigate the issue. As a precautionary measure we initiated a company-wide password reset. Also, we can confirm that all our games and services are functioning normally and that at this time there is no evidence any player personal information was accessed or exposed as a by-product of this incident.

It didn’t take long after Ubisoft’s statement for hacker group LAPSUS$ to take credit. It initially took credit by posting a smirk emoji on a story from The Verge. The group went on to say they did not target customer information. The group has recently gained attention with the release of data that was obtained from NVIDIA and Samsung.

Major companies ought to be shoring up their security measures unless they want to become another victim of the group. It is becoming obvious its attacks on NVIDIA and Samsung were more than just lucky one-offs. The group has managed to snag troves of sensitive information from its victims, only to later post it on the internet for all to see.
