HBO has released a new promotional trailer that includes an early peek at The Last of Us, a live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic PlayStation hit. The teaser can confirm that the show, which stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, will be available to stream sometime next year. Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin are the credited writers.
Here’s WarnerMedia’s description for The Last of Us, which will seemingly stick pretty closely with the game:
Based on the critically acclaimed video game “The Last of Us,” developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
The Last of Us Part I, a remake of the original with updated graphics and other improvements, will be released for PlayStation 5 consoles on September 2, 2022.
Naughty Dog hasn’t confirmed when the PC version might come out, but it is definitely “in development,” according to a June announcement.
