LG has announced that it is teaming with Unity, the world’s leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content, to develop meta-home and digital humans. Meta-home will allow users to create a “digital twin” of their personal living space that features LG products installed in the real home, while the latter will complement that virtual space, offering assistance in various ways that include helping manage appliance functions. The interactions provided by these digital humans will feel more realistic thanks to their conversational skills, facial expressions, and gestures, according to LG.
“Meta-home featuring digital humans will leverage LG’s advanced technologies and in-depth understanding of consumers and the home environment, and Unity’s unrivaled capabilities in RT3D and computer graphics, to deliver a true customer-experience innovation,” said Dr. Kim Byoung-hoon, CTO and executive vice president of LG Electronics.
From an LG press release:
LG Electronics (LG) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Unity, the world’s leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content, for the development of meta-home and digital humans.
Meta-home will let users create a highly accurate ‘digital twin’ of their personal living space, enabling them to spend time in a dynamic, virtual version of their own home. All the LG products installed in the user’s real home can be found inside meta-home. What’s more, any adjustments the user makes to their LG devices’ settings, features or functions within the digital environment will be reflected in the real world, providing an innovative, convenient method of control and an enjoyable, new customer experience.
Users can also customize their digital abode by rearranging the furniture and appliances, and come together with other meta-home users from all over the world to share personal tips and experiences of using LG’s advanced lifestyle solutions.
On top of that, meta-home will feature ultra-lifelike digital humans that can sense when users need assistance, offering timely support, for example, should they require help managing a specific appliance function. Through the integration of LG’s voice recognition, natural language processing and contextual learning technologies, as well as Unity’s sophisticated engine – which is used across various industries – these digital helpers will be able to communicate in an exceptionally natural way.
In addition to their conversational skills, meta-home’s virtual occupants will make interactions feel more ‘human’ thanks to their realistic, situationally-appropriate facial expressions and gestures.

Oh my god the stupidity never ends.
"The metaverse" just needs to die a fiery death.
Anyone who spends real money on virtual things (like clothes for a cartoon character of themselves) just can't be taken seriously.
I'm serious. I am a hiring manager. If I google you as part of the hiring process and find this shit, I'm probably going with another candidate. Any other candidate. There probably won't even be an interview. I dson't waste my time with people concerned with fluff and nonsense, and if they exhibit poor judgment in their personal lives, that probably means they'd make poor judgments in their professional lives as well.
This x1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
Great job, LG. Bob just injured himself while trying to have sex with a toaster. Again.
Just wait this is basically second life 2.0.
Yup. All this meta crap really is nothing new at all, been around for a long long time.
Fair, it's nothing new.
But we haven't had some of the biggest companies on the planet doubling down on it and claiming it is the future before.
Second Life existed, but it was something widely seen as for fringe freaks. Now these organizations are trying to force it into becoming mainstream so that they can profit off of it, and from what I can tell most people don't even want it.
The likes of Facebook (now "Meta") are trying to create some sense of FOMO in order to make people feel like they have to use this crap. I just don't see most people being actually into it, and I don't see any benefit from getting more people to use it either.
It's just plain stupidity, and I sincerely hope it crashes and burns.
