
Redmi has announced a new flagship smartphone called the Note 12 Discovery Edition, and one of its biggest highlights is how fast it charges: thanks to support for 210-watt HyperCharge, users can fully charge the phone’s 4,300 mAh battery to 100% in just nine minutes. Powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor, the phone also features a 200-megapixel main camera, 6.67-inch (2400×1080, 120 Hz) OLED display, 8 GB of LPDDR4x memory, and a large vapor chamber for improved cooling. Sales for the Redmi Note 12 DISCOVERY EDITION (RMB 2,399) and its siblings start at 8 p.m. on October 30 via official Mainland China channels.

Based on Redmi Note 12 Pro+, Redmi Note 12 DISCOVERY EDITION features an unprecedented 210W wired fast charging, capable of topping up a 4,300mAh battery to 100% in a mere 9 minutes.
To achieve such high-power fast charging, the design of the smartphone, battery cell, charger, and even the fast charging cable have been completely revamped. Three 100W fast charging chips are used and are distributed in a winged layout, reducing heat generation and maximizing high-power fast charging time. On the battery front, Redmi Note 12 DISCOVERY EDITION adopts a 10C dual-cell battery, and features optimized structural design and materials built using a new manufacturing process. Also featuring are cutting-edge technologies such as MTW technology, ultra-thin coating, and ultra-low viscosity electrolyte, together to greatly improve the charge and discharge capacity. The charger adopts dual GaN design, which greatly improves the power density, and the new customized 10.5A specification fast charging cable has an ultra-low impedance of 70mΩ, with an increased current capacity of 75% compared with the 120W/6A cable.

I can only think of a couple of very limited scenarios where I'm in a god awful hurry to have my phone charged. I'm even using an older phone that needs to be charged 2 or 3 times a day.
Faster charging also reduces overall battery life. So not sure this is such a great selling point. It's not like it's a car, where I'm trying to get somewhere and have to wait around for it to charge -- you can still use a phone while it's charging, and if you need to move around, there are plenty of mobile powerbank options.
I guess anything we can do to have a better number on the box than the competition though.
I would take a much larger replaceable battery with normal charging speed in a heartbeat.

9 minute charge time doesn’t really interest me all that much - I could honestly manage a 9 hour charge time if it meant the battery capacity would never degrade. There we go - instead of a 9 minute charge, can I get a 9 year life expectancy?
Phones don't need 9-min charge times, EVs do.
