Deep Silver, Epic Games, and Ys Net have given in to the demands of Shenmue 3 fans who wanted their money back after learning the adventure title had become an Epic exclusive and would not launch on Steam as originally planned. Tim Sweeney said his company would be covering the cost of all refunds so Ys Net’s finances wouldn’t be affected.
Epic is funding the cost of all Kickstarter refunds resulting from Shenmue III’s move to the Epic Games store, so that refunds won’t reduce Ys Net’s development funding. https://t.co/mSGdbzYPJ5— Tim Sweeney (@TimSweeneyEpic) July 2, 2019
The Epic CEO suggests this predicament will never happen again (“‘we’ll either coordinate with colleagues at the other stores to ensure key availability in advance, or guarantee refunds at announcement time”), but his tweet is a little confusing. How would other stores offer keys if the title becomes exclusive to Epic?
Details concerning the refund request process will be announced in a following update. We ask for your patience until that time.
*In the case rewards within your reward tier, such as in-game content, have already been created and implemented, a full refund may not be possible.
