The Apple Watch could be one of the first widely sold consumer devices to adopt microLED technology. Sources in the supply chain claim Apple is close to signing a deal with Taiwanese manufacturers Yu Chuang and Sui Bao for mLED processors and displays.

Yu Chuang hasn’t commented on the partnership yet, but Sui Bao is said to begin mass production later this year. That process would take around nine months, which would place the Apple Watch with mLED for fall of 2020.

Apple acquired micro LED specialist LuxVue for this back in 2014. Then in 2017, the company was reported to be doing this in order to benefit from the lower power consumption of micro LED, but it quickly appeared to abandon its discussions with Taiwanese firms due to a lack of progress.
