Final Fantasy VII fans can stop worrying whether Square Enix’s upcoming remake will play like the original or not. During a demonstration at the Tokyo Game Show, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed a new combat option called “classic mode,” which preserves the turn-based action of old-school Final Fantasy RPGs.
In the original #FinalFantasy VII, you would wait around until the ATB Gauge fills up, and then select a move to initiate your attack. With Classic Mode in #FF7R the team have re-created the same style of play!

Players who opt for Classic Mode won’t have to “worry about the action side of the combat system,” Square Enix said, “and can instead focus on selecting commands, making it possible to play [Final Fantasy 7 Remake] as if it were a classic menu-based RPG.”
