Hey Alexa heard any good rumors from Google Assistant lately? Over the course of the last year or so there have been numerous stories about devices ‘listening’ without the user’s knowledge. I doubt they will be the last ones. The Inquirer has reported on Google changing it’s policy regarding Google Assistant. They have performed a policy review and in moving forward ‘will never allow human operators to listen to your conversations with Google Assistant.

This is of course is followed by a ‘opt in’ option similar to what we’ve seen Apple do after stories broke about Siri. It remains to be seen what other manufacturers will do with their privacy policies and device listening behavior. Evidently there’s still a couple of folks out there that value their privacy. Who’d thunk it?

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
