Computerbase.de has reported on Intel preparing to essentially slash prices on it’s Skylake-X processors. Earlier this year end of life was announced for these HEDT processors so it should come as no big surprise that a discount was inevitable but not many would believe in the possibility of potentially halving, or more, their prices so soon.

This shouldn’t be too much of a shock since AMD has been providing quite a bit of competition throughout the year. Both companies are also expected to launch their next respective product lines soon as well and competitive pricing will be key to their success.

Computer Base has provided some approximate price estimates but variations should be expected and the estimates are based on Euro to Dollar conversion. Here are some of the more higher priced offerings.

  • Core i9-9980XE reduced from $1979 to $921
  • Core i9-9960X reduced from $1684 to $760
  • Core i9-9940X reduced from $1387 to $563
  • Core i9-9920X reduced from $1189 to $466

I admit I’m a little skeptical that Intel would so aggressively lower their prices but anything is possible. They’ve also reported on already seeing the 9940X discounted from over 1350 euro to just over 800 euro which does provide hope these price estimates may be closer to truth than not.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
