The Epic Games Store’s freebies are getting better and better. Up for grabs this week is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, a triple-A title from Ubisoft that normally costs $29.99.

Syndicate is the ninth major installment of the long-running Assassin’s Creed series. The game was released back in 2015 and served as the franchise’s first foray into Victorian-era London – which means British/French accents, top hats, horse carriages, and so on.

Unfortunately, Syndicate wasn’t well reviewed when it came out. Players have complained about a lackluster story and poor combat experience, but thanks to Epic’s generosity, it’s the perfect time to check it out for yourself.

The game is also notable for featuring the series’s first playable female Assassin, Evie Frye. She’s controllable in a number of missions, but her brother, Jacob, seems to be the focus of the game.

“As Jacob Frye, a young and reckless Assassin, use your skills to help those trampled by the march of progress.”

“Travel the city at the height of the Industrial Revolution and meet iconic historical figures. From Westminster to Whitechapel, you will come across Darwin, Dickens, Queen Victoria… and many more.”

“As a gang leader, strengthen your stronghold and rally rival gang members to your cause, in order to take back the capital from the Templars’ hold.”

With the release of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft has since pivoted to a loot-heavy, RPG-ish direction for the series. The next installment – which is reportedly called Ragnarok and takes place during the Viking era – will likely follow that.

Abrakam’s card game, Faeria, is also available for free on the Epic Games Store until February 27.
