Activision traditionally announces a new premium Call of Duty title annually, but it’s nearly August now, and we still haven’t heard anything about the next installment of the world’s most popular FPS franchise. What gives? We have no idea (Coronavirus, maybe), but that doesn’t really matter anymore, since the title of this year’s game has managed to leak from a Doritos promotion (of all things…).

According to leaked images shared by TheGamingRevolution on Twitter, Treyarch is cooking up Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. That title should definitely ring some bells for those of you who played the 2010 original, which starred Alex “ah, get the numbers out of my head!” Mason fumbling around in that very same era of tension between the United States and Soviet Union.

It’s unclear whether this means Cold War will be a re-imagining of some sort, like last year’s Modern Warfare reboot, but we should know the full story in just a few months based on the date of the Doritos promotion.

“The promotion begins on the 5th of October 2020,” Modern Warzone pointed out. “Whether this will be the launch date for Black Ops Cold War is still up for debate, however we do have previous information that we can use to make educated guesses and assumptions.”

Modern Warfare had a Mountain Dew promotion that started in early October. Modern Warfare was released on October 25th. Could the next Call of Duty title follow in Modern Warfare’s footsteps?”
