If you haven’t played Insomniac Games’s original Spider-Man game, you may want to hold off on that until the PlayStation 5 comes out (you are getting one, right?). According to a story published in the latest issue of Game Informer, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will actually come bundled with a remastered version of the 2018 title, which came out for the PlayStation 4 back in 2018.

That seems like a pretty sweet deal, especially when you consider the fact that the Miles Morales game could only be half the length of the original. “We know a lot of you want to know how big this game is,” Brian Horton, Creative Director at Insomniac Games wrote in a blog post earlier this month. “Our team at Insomniac has been working incredibly hard to bring you a fantastic Miles Morales adventure since we concluded development on Marvel’s Spider-Man. You’ll experience a full story arc with Miles, one that’s more akin to a game like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in terms of overall scope. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an important, heartfelt, emotional and essential experience to expanding the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe. And we hope it will be for you as well.”

Here’s the original blurb from Game Informer. We’re not entirely convinced that the Spider-Man remaster is real (you’d think that Sony or Insomniac might have mentioned something by now…), but the publication seems to state its existence matter-of-factly.

In the world of comic-book heroes, Miles Morales is a fairly new addition. The character debuted in one of Marvel’s alternate universes in 2011, but proved so popular that he not only joined Marvel’s main continuity but starred in his own film: Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. This holiday, he’ll be center stage in Insomniac’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Not bad for a hero who’s been around less than a decade.

Miles Morales isn’t a traditional sequel, since it comes bundled with a remastered version of Insomniac’s Spider-Man that takes full advantage of the PS5 hardware. Some have described Spider-Man: Miles Morales as an expansion, but we imagine that this project is similar to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which was built off of Uncharted 4’s framework.

Whatever the case, Miles will have his own story and will make use of his venom-blast ability, a strike that temporarily paralyzes almost anyone it touches. We’re still not sure how big the game will be, but Insomniac described it as a “standalone game,” implying that fans can expect a meaty experience.
