Today marks the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Game Pass for PC, Windows 10, and Steam. Those of you who are thinking about delaying (or even canceling) your flight may want to think again, as the game’s initial reviews are positively glowing. In fact, it’s already the second best-rated PC game of the year at Metacritic. Here’s a sample of what critics are saying:

  • GamingTrend (100): There is nothing out there like Microsoft Flight Simulator. It delivers the entire world in unrivaled quality, combined with pinpoint precise controls and realism at a level that is unmatched. If you want a taste of the sky, this game is virtual perfection…
  • Guardian (100): Wherever you go, this game captures the wonder of flight, and the spiritual and emotional rush of seeing the world in a different way.
  • IGN (100): Microsoft Flight Simulator is legitimately incredible. It’s difficult to fully describe how amazing it feels to jump into a plane and have the freedom fly to and from literally any place in the entire world.
  • Press Start Australia (100): Microsoft Flight Simulator is a game that you have to play to understand just how incredible of an experience it is. It’s an incomparable adventure that consistently surprises and delights. The game provides you with all the tools necessary to conquer the unthinkable task of flying the plane.

Microsoft has also published a blog post celebrating the game’s release. Despite the fact that Microsoft Flight Simulator already weighs 150 GB, it includes a promise that plenty of additional content is on the way.

“This is just the beginning,” Jorg Neumann wrote. “We will continue to update our development roadmap with simulator updates including free world updates, themed DLC bundles, VR and more including all the great content that 3rd party developers have begun to announce will be coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator.”
