Warner Bros. has released our first look at Matt Reeves’s upcoming Batman film, which stars Robert Pattinson in the titular role. Despite early production photos that suggested otherwise, the movie looks absolutely fantastic in the cinematography department. Those of you who doubted Pattinson’s ability to take on the cowl may also want to set your skepticism aside, as the actor looks pretty cool in the new Batsuit – especially when he’s beating the living daylights out of a thug. His Bruce Wayne looks suitably dreary, too, which is appropriate based on this early stage of his crime-fighting career (two years in, apparently).

Warner Bros. hasn’t provided an official synopsis for The Batman yet, but the teaser trailer seems to confirm that the main villain will be Edward Nigma – a.k.a. The Riddler. That’s pretty obvious from the first half of the trailer, which has Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon (we’re not sure if he’s Commissioner yet) and the Gotham Police investigating a crime scene full of cryptic messages.

The Batman will be released next year on October 1, 2021.
