Blizzard has revealed that the Rogue will be making her long-awaited return in the fourth installment of its demonic hack-and-slash series, Diablo IV. The character class, which has traditionally been defined by attributes such as increased dexterity and effectiveness with bows, hasn’t been playable since the original 1997 Diablo. Her return is sure to be a welcome one for Diablo IV players who wish to combine ranged and melee attacks with speed and mobility.

“The Barbarian embodies brute strength, the Sorceress arcane knowledge, the Druid ferocious savagery, and now the Rogue has arrived to lay waste to the forces of Hell through unparalleled versatility,” Blizzard wrote. “[…] there isn’t a more appropriate time to shine a light on a mysterious figure who has been lurking in the shadows.”

“Rogue players can choose from a variety of ways to stab, shoot, and trap their enemies and can enhance their combat through poisons, shadow magic, and specialized techniques. This class is not just for fans of the original Rogue—Assassin and Demon Hunter players will notice some of our favorite tricks of the trade have come back as well.”

You can check out the announcement trailer for the Rogue class below, as well as a deep dive that provides additional insight on how the character class might play in the final version of the game. Unfortunately, Blizzard did not provide any clues as to when Diablo IV might launch during this weekend’s BlizzConline event.
